A Squarespace SEO checklist for a local service business
For a local service business, the first Squarespace improvements are often straightforward: explain the service, identify the real area covered and make the contact step easy. Work through this checklist before treating a redesign or custom-code package as the default solution.

Review the page as a potential customer
Open your most important service page on a phone. Can you identify what is offered without scrolling past a large decorative introduction? Can you find the area served and a working contact route? Write down the first three questions the page leaves unanswered.
Use a specific example from your own business. A cleaning company may need to distinguish recurring home cleaning from end-of-tenancy work. A repair service may need to explain diagnostic visits and parts. Do not make one generic paragraph carry every possible service.
Give each page a distinct job
Build a short page map: homepage for orientation, service pages for scope and suitability, an about page for accurate business context, and contact information for the next step. Avoid creating many near-identical town pages with only the place name changed.
Where a location deserves its own page, include genuinely useful differences such as actual coverage, scheduling limitations or local access arrangements. If you cannot explain why the page helps a customer, improve the existing service page instead.
Check page titles and descriptions
Squarespace’s SEO checklist recommends distinct page descriptions and reviewing page-title formats. Use each field to describe the actual page. A title such as “Move-out cleaning in Example City | Example Cleaners” is appropriate only when that service and location are real.
Write the description as a short invitation to the right visitor. Explain the service or decision the page helps with; do not stuff in a string of towns. Review what the published page actually outputs after saving.

Test the route from interest to inquiry
Follow the page’s main button yourself. Check whether the form asks for enough information to respond without collecting unnecessary sensitive details. For a quote request, service type, general area and a contact method may be more useful than a long mandatory questionnaire.
Make the response expectation honest. If you only monitor inquiries during business hours, do not promise instant assistance. Check that phone and email links work on mobile, and that any booking page describes the same service as the page that sent the visitor there.
Treat custom code as a scoped decision
Identify a specific problem before requesting code injection or another integration. Availability and permissions depend on your actual plan and setup. Confirm them before buying work. Preserve the owner’s account and use a separate contributor invitation for authorized changes.
Ask for a change record that names the affected pages, the settings edited, the validation performed and the remaining limits. This makes later maintenance easier than a handoff consisting only of a higher score or a screenshot.
Choose the first three fixes
Prioritize a broken contact path, a factual error or an unclear main service before a cosmetic detail. Once those are resolved, revisit titles, supporting questions and technical findings. A manageable sequence lets you see what changed and prevents a small improvement project from turning into an unnecessary rebuild.
